  • RAW TRIAL DAY 9

    DAY 9

I have very bad breath in the morning now, even after brushing my teeth. I have heard that this is a common detox symptom during this kind of diet. I heard that chewing on mint leaves might help -- I’ve tried it before and it’s not exactly my cup of tea. But I guess I have no other choice…?

I think from watching me do this diet, my family’s intake on fruits and vegetables have improved! And to think that they all thought I was crazy for even considering taking on this trial! HAH! Now my mom has been telling me that when ever she sees me eating a grapefruit, she gets this undeniable urge to eat one herself! And my brother has been juicing! Yes folks, I said juicing! He has always loved juice and could easily have up to 5 lunch-sized boxes a day! But lately he’s been grabbing fruits from left and right and juicing them like there‘s no tomorrow! I knew I hadn’t wasted an investment on that Jack Lalane power juicer!

Today was a lazy day. I spent a good part of the day lounging around on the couch watching season 1 box set of House. The past few days have been quite hectic what with work, catching up on lectures, and finishing up some papers. I just needed one day to myself and fill up on some Hugh Laurie goodness. There is just something about a 40-something doctor with a cane that is so tantalizingly sexy! =)

    Today I had:

*Hot cacao drink (1 tbsp raw cacao powder, 2 tbsp agave syrup) and 2 large bananas.

I have aquired quite a liking to this drink. At first, I didn’t like it because I found it bitter. Plus I have always disliked the “dark chocolate” taste. I think the restrictions I have set for this diet like cutting out certain food add-ons (additives, salt, sugar, artificial sweeteners, spices, dressings) it, in a way, has heightened my sense of taste and tolerance to food.

    * 2 nori wraps -- I used half an avocado for the stuffing. I also had a large grapefruit with this meal. The avocado was super rich and complimented the nori wrap well.

I took a few pieces of sushi before taking this picture. I couldn’t resist!

    * 2 mugs of hot cacao drink (I told you I acquired a liking to it!) 1 large banana, 1/2 cup raw cashews.

    * green smoothie (consisting of 3 small bananas, 3 handfuls of spinach, 1 ½ cup water) and 1/2 cup cashews

A little on the low side today. But then again, I did spend most of the day couch-bound.

I am running low on bananas again =(. I have about 9 bananas left. I will probably head down to the grocery store tomorrow to pick up a whole new batch. I also need to pick up some more raw blue agave syrup.

OH, OH! A little update: I have caught the culprit who has been sucking down my bottle of agave syrup! I caught her this morning pouring it in her morning coffee! And then she tried to deny it after I let out a little "AH-HAH!". To late, MOTHER dear, I caught you in the act! She finally caved and confessed that she liked how the syrup sweetens her coffee. It’s ok mama, I am willing to share! =) I also like how the agave sweetens. Unlike sugar or honey, agave syrup sweetens without altering the natural flavouring of the drink. It is also low on the glycemic index (where as honey and sugar are quite high) and will not put your blood sugar levels out of wack!

    Till next time!

Hey there!  Clicked on the link to your xanga when I saw it on my footprints.  Interesting blog you've started!  I've been thinking about doing raw for 30 days (as opposed to juice fasting for 30 days)... so I'm finding your blog very inspirational!  I'm getting married in 7 months... and I wanted to tone up and get in shape.  I've wanted to do it before I got engaged, but kept putting it off.

I'm pretty experienced in detoxing and have been on a raw diet while doing so, but have not tried doing a full raw diet.  Juice fasting has always been tough b/c it takes a lot of time and effort... but eating raw is very simple.  Well.. it's a simple concept... not so simple to just pick up fruits and veggies and start munching when there's yummy food everywhere!  I'm glad that I found your blog.  I can get food inspiration from you!!  :)

BTW, you're right... bad breath is associated with detox symptoms.  You may also notice thatyour tongue has a white coating.  This is also a sign of toxins being released from the body.  If that happens to me, I just brush my teeth and tongue and rinse with mouthwash.  That usually takes care of the problem (temporarily).  :)

    Good luck!!
