RAW TRIAL DAY 11
DAY 11
Did you know that I unknowingly got myself started on this diet because of a terrible flu that I one day caught? Oh, it was horrible! I was fever-y, experienced horrible body aches, rough coughs, terrible congestion, sneezing, vomiting, and at one point diarrhea!!...gosh, you name it! I had it! It was not pleasant. Usually, in a situation like that, I tend to pile on the meds in order to numb out the pain. But I was at the point where I just…didn’t want to go through the side effects coming from the meds any longer than I wanted to feel the pain from the symptoms! So I completely boycotted the meds all together and for about 4 days, I only consumed foods in its purest form: raw. I avoided anything processed/pasteurized/refined like it was the plague! And I am so glad I did because my body has definitely reaped of the benefits! I was in tip top shape after the 4th day! But what really shocked me the most was that both my mom and I had caught this flu at the same time and it took her about a week and half longer (with meds) than I did (without meds)! And she is quite fit for her age -- I think even more so than myself sometimes!
Weight loss -- I’ve been noticing how loose my clothes have been fitting so I decided to weigh myself this morning. I am down 5 lbs since starting this trial, 8 lbs in total since introducing raw foods into my diet. Again, I started this trial not for sake of weight loss but for personal growth and challenge. Having said that, I did expect to lose weight while doing this trial as it is a common result when detoxing. The first 3lbs I lost was when I was sick and went completely raw for 4 days. I initially thought the weight loss was due to the illness. I have been re-reading my food intakes over the past couple of days to check if I’ve been under-eating. To my surprise, I’ve been averaging roughly about 1500-2500 calories per day! I find this raw lifestyle quite interesting. I have been eating pounds of raw produce a day and I am losing weight. Amazing! This begs me to wonder where exactly the weight is coming off. I am sure most of it is water weight, perhaps even some fat loss. But I do wonder if some of the weight loss is due to a lot of the toxins that this diet has been flushing out of my system. Did you know that when they did an autopsy on Elvis` body, they found 60 lbs worth of impacted fecal matter??
Wow! Nothing against the King but that’s a lot of compacted poop! I can tell you now that since starting this diet, my um…bowel movements have been very “regular”.
Enough of the poop talk…TODAY’S INTAKE:
* green smoothie (consisting of 3 small bananas, 3 tbsp flax seeds, 2 handfuls spinach 1 cup water)
* 1 large banana, ½ cup raw cashews
*1 large banana, 1 large fugi apple, ½ cup raw filbert
* ½ cup dried apple, ¼ cup raw granola
I stopped by the organic store to maybe add a little more diversity to my meals. I ended up buying some treats instead! I bought a bag full of dried or dehydrated apples and a bag of “raw marshmallow crunch granola”. The granola tasted like rice crispy squares! The ingredients stated on the bag were deglet dates, sprouted buckwheat, almonds, almond exract, vanilla extract -- all organic.
(That bag of organic dried apples was full to the top. I popped those babies like they were potato chips!)
* 2 nori wraps ( stuffing consisted of 3 small mushrooms, 1 handful mixed greens, 1/4 red bell peppers, 3 tbsp salsa in each nori sheet). My salsa today had quite a bite to it -- must have been the extra small pepper I added. It was different yet still quite enjoyable!
*chocolate banana smoothie (consisting of 3 medium sized frozen bananas, 1 ½ tbsp raw cacao powder, 1 cup water) YUMYUMYUMYUM YUUUUM =)
Ciao for now guys!

Congrats on your loss. : ) That chocolate banana smoothie sounds good. I might have to try it sometime.
Thanks so much for the compliment and great comment!
That's very interesting about how eating raw foods has helped you so much. I try to do the same, sticking to whole grains and raw fruits and veggies, but because I'm not the person buying food in this house I have to work with what I've got.
I also liked the part about the meds. I'm not quite sure why (though I think it has to do with how stubborn I am), but I detest medication. I think it's quite interesting how the people in my family and classes who take medications a lot got sick this flu season, but I didn't even get the sniffles. The only exception to my rule is the extremely rare period with cramps. I hardly ever get cramps, but when I do they are terrible. And because it's so rare, I'm not opposed to taking a Pamprin or Midol.
And Elvis? Ew, gross!
Keep up the good work, darling!
